Mitchell’s Landing, located in San Antonio, TX, is named in honor of Mitchell Chang and was gifted to the community by the Mitchell Chang Foundation.
Cunningham Recreation was honored to partner with the Mitchell Chang Foundation to bring Mitchell’s Landing to life—a heartfelt tribute to their son and a remarkable gift to the community. This custom, inclusive play space is thoughtfully designed for children of all abilities, ensuring that everyone can play, explore, and have fun together. With vibrant graphics and colorful poured-in-place rubber safety surfacing, the playground offers seamless mobility for all devices. Multiple transfer platforms and freestanding inclusive elements, such as the RoxAll inclusive see-saw, create engaging and accessible play experiences for every child.
Designed with a nautical theme, Mitchell’s Landing brings Mitchell’s love for pirates to life. Young adventurers can hunt for buried treasure, fire imaginary cannonballs, and dive into an underwater world with mermaids. The playground also includes playful landscape concepts with mounds, spheres and other non-traditional play elements adding yet another "wow" factor. Thoughtfully placed shade structures keep the playground cool and inviting, encouraging longer outdoor play.
As a PlayCORE/GameTime National Demonstration Site for Inclusive Play and Youth Physical Activity, Mitchell’s Landing sets a new benchmark for accessible and engaging play. Its thoughtful design and inclusive features ensure that every child, regardless of ability, can explore, imagine, and create lasting memories in a space where everyone belongs.
